Sticking only to the college entrance exam puts immense pressure on students and anxiety on parents—there are 4 paths to success.

Focusing solely on the Gaokao puts immense pressure on children and anxiety on parents—there are 4 paths to success.

Every year, after the high school entrance exams, tens of thousands of families enter the same race: the college entrance exam.

How crowded is this track? In 2026, Shanghai's undergraduate admission cutoff score was 403 points, with an overall undergraduate pass rate of approximately 78%—meaning more than 20% of students did not even reach the undergraduate threshold. And among those who made it to the finish line on this track, how many spent their three years consumed by anxiety, insomnia, and self-doubt?

Not every child is suited for the same path.

Some students have a weak foundation in academic subjects but excel in hands-on skills or possess artistic talent; others struggle with the pace of standardized testing yet thrive in an international education environment due to their outgoing personalities; some simply seek a full-time associate degree to secure a stable job. Can the Gaokao alone meet all these diverse needs?

The era of "one exam determines your life" is fading; the age of diverse pathways to higher education has arrived.

If your child is under pressure to focus solely on the Gaokao, Shanghai Chengcai Comprehensive High School offers a multi-track system combining academics, arts, international education, and vocational training—opening four pathways to success.

Official high school enrollment with four flexible college pathways.

Shanghai Chengcai Comprehensive High SchoolEstablished in 1998, located at No. 3800 Gongji Road, Pudong New Area, covering an area of 116 mu with approximately 2000 students enrolled. In 2025, the school was officially approved as a "Comprehensive High School Pilot Program" by Shanghai Open University, gaining official endorsement for its educational model and teaching quality.

Students enroll in high school with official academic records that are authentic, verifiable on CHSI (China Higher Education Student Information), and eligible to take the National College Entrance Examination alongside regular high school students.

However, the key difference between Chengcai and regular high schools is that upon enrollment, students can freely choose from four college pathways and switch between them later.

Switch from academics to arts mid-way? Yes. Move from domestic to international curriculum? Also yes. One enrollment, multiple pathways. We don't close doors—we give your child room to explore, adjust, and find their best fit.

Four paths, one leading directly to your child's desired future.

Path 1: Unified College Entrance Exam Program – Aim for Full-Time Undergraduate Degree

Students take the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao) on par with regular high school students and submit college application preferences through the unified system. The school implements tiered instruction based on students' actual academic foundations, supported by customized school-based textbooks and lesson plans.

Cultural College Entrance Exam Class:Syncs with regular high school curriculum. Small-class instruction. Option to take Japanese instead of English for the National College Entrance Examination (Gaokao). Regular participation in Spring and Autumn entrance exams.

Art College Entrance Exam Class:Covers seven art exam tracks: fine arts, music, broadcasting and hosting, film and television acting, dance, directing and performance, and sports. Integrated instruction for academic subjects and art major courses with eligibility for reduced-score college admission. Historical undergraduate acceptance rate is approximately 78%.

Option 2: 3 + 3 Full-Time Associate Degree Program – Guaranteed Regular Enrollment in a Full-Time College

Three-year high school program guaranteeing admission to a full-time accredited junior college, with the opportunity to compete for top public institutions such as Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College, Shanghai Civil Aviation Vocational College, and Shanghai Tourism College. Ideal for students with weaker academic foundations seeking a full-time degree.

Path 3: Vocational-Technical Integrated Program — 2+3 Associate Degree / 2+4 Bachelor's Degree, direct admission without the Gaokao

Adopts a "High School + 2" or "High School + 2" integrated training model. Students are exempt from the national college entrance examination in 6 and can directly advance to partner institutions upon passing internal assessments. With reduced academic pressure, this pathway is ideal for families seeking a stable route to higher education.

Path 4: Japan-Korea International Study Program – Broaden Your Global Perspective, Connect with Top Overseas Universities

For Japan and South Korea, we partner with institutions such as Myongji University and Cheongju University in Korea, and Meiji Gakuin in Japan. Our programs offer 2.5+1 self-study options, 2.5+1 guided pathways, and 3+0 direct entry tracks for Japan; while the Korea track follows a 3+4 direct admission model. The curriculum integrates domestic high school studies with Japan-Korea transition courses and specialized language training. Among students choosing our international tracks, 54% enroll in our partner universities in Korea, and 39% proceed to partner universities in Japan.

Seamlessly switch between the four tracks anytime. Want to transition from academic studies to arts mid-program? Yes. Prefer to move from domestic to international curriculum? Also possible.

Small class sizes + tiered development: Every child gets seen.

Chengcai High School maintains small class sizes, with approximately 30 students per class. Our student-to-teacher ratio of 1:7 ensures instructors can promptly identify subtle challenges students face in both classroom learning and assignments. With two homeroom teachers collaborating throughout the school year, we provide comprehensive support for every aspect of your child's growth—from academic progress to daily well-being.

Each student is assigned a dedicated academic advisor to deliver "comprehensive, holistic, and personalized" guidance. For weaker subjects, we provide one-on-one improvement plans that turn weaknesses into strengths. Plus, dual-teacher classrooms feature joint instruction by both native Chinese and international teachers.

No child should be invisible in the classroom—that's what education is meant to be.
